The State Machine
The State Machine is a vision for a living model of Britain: a way to understand the country as it is, see where it is heading, and explore what could change its course. It could help government anticipate pressure on public services, understand why places are falling behind, and test how decisions on housing, transport or investment might change people’s lives. Crucially, it could reveal the consequences beyond any single policy: who benefits, who bears the cost, and what happens elsewhere. The ambition is a Britain that can act earlier, invest more wisely, and learn which decisions actually make life better.
